City Wall Tower

Something Different

City Wall Tower hosts weddings that capture the imagination offering a blank canvass for your big day. This beautiful little chapel is brimming with history and charm. Built into Canterbury’s famous & historic City Wall the chapel is a protected Grade II listed English heritage monument.

Licensed to hold up to 80 guests, the chapel is a quirky, intimate and alternative venue, perfect for all types of wedding.

The chapel offers a venue hire only at affordable rates so your big day doesn’t have to cost big money.

History: The foundations thought to date from around 1140 and the tower and stonework of the main chapel likely to date back to the late 14th century. The chapel stands on the site of an original medieval battle tower, built as part of the tower’s defences. The building was then made into a chapel, formerly called Zoar Chapel. The word ‘Zoar’ means small, and it is a unique little chapel indeed.

The lucky chapel: During the late 18th and 19th centuries, huge parts of the city wall were knocked down as Canterbury grew, but the chapel survived. Then, when German bombing caused further damage during World War II, the chapel still luckily survived and remains intact to this day. Just like a great marriage, no matter what life throws at it, strong foundations and a bit of good luck really helps.

City Wall Tower is available to hire for your wedding ceremony only, so your reception & accommodation etc would be held elsewhere, so all you are tied to with us is tying the knot. Our approach is offering a blank canvas and the flexibility to plan your perfect wedding day.
